    Gilga, feel free to correct the negotiation stance! So far just trying a preliminary “this isn’t going to be cheap, no we aren’t desperate for work at all” opening position.

    Oh, and Jawsey has a high con, which I figure will make him suspicious of others. Throw in a wealthy foreigner, a few dozen names, a legendary jewel, and it no doubt lines up pretty well with some classic con game.

    AM will observe to see if the man is using any subterfuge techniques she is aware of.

    @Tecumseh

    I borrowed her name (with small variations) from the previous real live duchess 😉

    @beta

    you can be sure that this chapter will contain some form of con. As a huge fan of Leverage and Person of Interest I’ll hopefully be able to present you with a coherent story 😀

    Quick OOC alignment here (there are times I miss being able to look around the table and pick up facial expressions). That pay sounds decent, and as said there may be opportunities to make more and to make connections. Obviously we bargain, but from where Jawsey’s thoughts are at, the priority would be to get some up front and then staged payments as much as possible, in case things fall apart by the end. (also AM needs money before the 1st!)

    Any differing opinions before we actually get to bargaining?

    AM is 100% with you on this one. 50k is a solid payment, we can try to get more (why not really?) but he knows that we took a job for 33k. So the justification is that in this particular job there is some more risk than in the previous job we took. At any case, getting some upfront money makes his commitment more realistic, and considering that he is nobility and we are a bunch of semi-legitimate criminals – it is required as he might as well just use us and not pay us. It is not like he is in our social cycles here we can do nothing in return.

    We took a job for 33K, but that was 24 hours of work. This is more like a week and half of work. It still breaks down to 5k/day for the agency, or 1,250/day per person. I don’t think any of us would scoff at that, but we’ve also made more on a per day or per hour basis.

    Since Beta’s OOC brain doesn’t like writing negotiations, there are things to possibly negotiate for:

    1) hazard pay, if danger arises

    2) expense accounts

    3) uniforms (i.e. fancy armored clothes, like Scout Tuxedos)

    Point 3 is much more likely to work – as you can imagine, working without express permission of his boss, he can only siphon so much money into hiring you. Granting you perks instead is quite doable since that comes from different accounts.

    Jack, this is the funniest drek:

    “You,” he nods at Mato “would probably be able to fulfill the duties of a Chasseur or a Hall Porter. Maybe even a Stable Hand or an Under-Butler.”

    I’m laughing every time Cunningham says anything.

    Are we trying to squeeze anything out of him other than a payment schedule? Mato is inclined to never accept the first offer, but socially he knows that AM and Jawsey are in a superior position to press for additional compensation.

    If there’s a teamwork test, here’s Mato’s contribution. (If Mato leads the test, he would likely use Edge.)

    Let’s try to get some clothing budget – we cannot stay a week in the same suit… and there is no other way that AM would have anything representative to wear.

    Great point on clothes. I’ve tried to throw in a few other non-nuyen types of things we might want.

    with the teamwork: negotiate the contract (=4d teamwork): 17d6t5 5

    Not inspiring, but reasonably within expectations. I tend to assume that edge used in negotiations doesn’t recover until after the run really starts (else why not edge every job negotiation), and this seems like a job that may require our edge? But if people think it is worth it I’ll edge to re-roll fails.

    =================================

    Still working on the post interlude Jawsey upgrades. So far I have:

    – take in-debt down to 1 from 2 (karma and nuyen)

    – summoning and spellcasting 3 ->4

    – ritual magic and counterspelling 2-> 3

    – first aid and pilot: ground 0 ->1

    – start putting in the time to improve magic from 3 to 4.

    – buy another 25 reagents

    I could totally pay off his debt, but preferred to keep more of a buffer, even if it costs a bit more in the long run (and this way he can help AM if needed).

    BUT I’m looking for ideas, I think it is time for him to learn his whole third spell. (Not that he’s made use of his first two yet, but some day). In manipulation he now has a pool of 9 (10 after the run when he can finish improving his magic). So he’s not going to overcome large resistances, and it is still dangerous for him to throw spells at higher power levels.

    So I’m looking for spell ideas. One thought was shape material on something without too high of an object resistance pool, but open to others.

    Beta Since it is a whole week job I’d imagine that edging is healthy. I mean you should recover it by the time you need to. In the previous job we had no time to regain the edge because the party was “tonight”. PS did anyone do a shopping list from Urubia?

    Well, technically this job starts tomorrow as well.

    Since Bobby passed on his coin to you, I did not keep track of what you bought with them.

    As for spells:
    Detection spells are quite usefull even at low force

    I am with Jack if AM has these remote sight spells Jawsey can have a remote earing spells to compliment them?

    you do not need many dice to hear people naturally talking across the room. I think it has a lot of utility in this specific game.

    Eh, we probably could have gotten more up front, but we have moved on, so no edge.

    Thanks for the spell ideas. Will finalize shortly.

    As the man said, there may be the opportunity to earn some tips, hehe.

    I’m sure additional opportunities will present themselves in a target-rich environment.

    As for the Urubia spending, I think it went into the fancy camera and a bunch of Psyche. We should add these to the SIS page: https://stormy-waters-2075.obsidianportal.com/wikis/seattle-investigative-services

    Speaking of which, there are several subscriptions for which Mato is paying that may come in handy. They are all from Cutting Aces, I believe, and should assist in social situations like this:

    – AR Fashion Subscription, Business
    – CarnivoreGold: linguistic database and code-breaking software
    – MonaLisa: facial recognition software
    – Pheromone Detection
    – Thermal Mood Reading: assists Judge Intentions
    – Vocal Tension Lie Detection: also assists Judge Intentions
