    No one has to convince me about the domestic applications for magic. An extra pair of psychokinetic hands is a huge help.

    II keep losing posts somehow πŸ™ yesterday I’d written up several paragraphs of Jawsey cleaning up and starting patch, and today it is not here. Not sure if the post button is being finicky or what.

    @beta

    That sucks! I haven’t lost any posts recently (knock on wood) but the site does seem to log me out fairly frequently. The old site used to do that too, which resulted in some lost posts when it would log me out mid-post. Are you seeing the post added to the end of the thread when you hit Post?

    ICly, I might suggest that cleaning up glass might be a good use of a service, as it’s a meticulous job and the spirit’s immunity means it won’t cut itself. I imagine that the HQ has some second-hand cleaning drones that I can post about at some point.

    @jack_spade

    I won’t call for a roll for the work on the roof because the dice pool will be negative. It’s probably an Engineering roll of some sort, but defaulting for Bobby (or anyone else), bad working conditions (-3 due to wind), and inadequate tools/part (-2). So it’s a temporary patch, at best, until conditions improve.

    @gilga

    AM can do a lot of good with the Heal spell. With 10 soak dice, she can avoid drain 90% of the time at F6 / 2S drain. Depending on how much drain she’s willing to incur, AM could cast Heal dozens of times.

    @all

    Mostly RP at this point. We can probably wrap up the Interlude in a day or two.

    AM would improve logic to work on the roof in the morning. It is midnight, we’ll need to buy stuff and so forth.

    Yes, that would help. Maybe some teamwork tests too. Or Leadership from Jawsey, since I presume he doesn’t want to stump around on the roof with his cane. I guess he could Levitate things too.

    He doesn’t need to use the cane, strictly speaking. It is a role playing prop for his infirm and creature of comfort negative qualities. I’ve used his poorly healed back as the fluff behind both of those, with the cane being an RP prop behind those.

    But this does get me wondering, are we seeing a temporary drop in the lifestyle until repaired? That would leave him cranky (creature of comfort: middle)

    Good question. The short answer is “not yet”. The Creature of Comfort quality takes a day to kick in. Chapter 5 will start about eight hours in the future, so not enough time for Jawsey to be grouchy yet, but he’ll be highly motivated to get the HQ fixed up properly.

    But if Jawsey wants to bail on Touristville for a Middle-class hotel room somewhere (presumably using his fake SIN), that’s 100% understandable from an RP perspective.

    Hm, Bobby could do a somewhat adequate job by using Analyse Device – but probably in the morning – and after getting buffed with some Logic Improvement. Basic tools shouldn’t have much object resistance to contend with.
    But yeah, for now it’s just to keep the – probably soon coming – rain out. I can focused concern away the wind.

    Drain resist Body Boost: 10d6t5 4

    No Drain from earlier

    Body Boost: 8d6t5 2

    analyse device F4: 13d6t5 4 (Spending a point of Reagent to increase the limit)

    Object Resistance: 6d6t5 0

    Drain resist: 12d6t5 7

    Ok, so now I have 4 points in using my tools to fix the roof, remove the wind – which makes my Pool
    3 Logic + 4 Analyze Device (Taking away Untrained Penalty) -2 Sustain Spell +/-0 Wind (Focused Concern) -2 Inadequate tools.

    And since I’m feeling lucky, I’ll spend a point of Edge

    Total for the repairs is then 6

    Fixing the roof: 6d6h5 5

    Looks like new πŸ˜‰

    Wow, nice roll Jack… I was going to offer you some more logic but you got that figured out. Amazing!

    @Tec, AM would basically heal until she is too drained or there is nobody left for healing. I mean, how many people did the Crimson Crush leave bleeding. Rolling drain (since it may be important for the next chapter).

    url=https://orokos.com/roll/790571]Five healing spells[/url]: 5#10d6t5 2 2 5 3 2 no drain after five spells.

    Yes, BUT we’re missing the -1 for Defaulting. And can I point out how crazy this roll is:

    [6d6h5=4, 4, 3, [6, 4], 5, [6, 6, 6, 1]]

    That’s two extra hits off one exploding six. But the flip side is that dropping one die actually costs three hits.

    We’ll need AM’s Increase Logic to add a die back in so we don’t lose it. After which point, yes, Bobby makes the roof even better than it was before.

    Well Tec, Analyze device make Bobby ignore the defaulting penalty.

    At any case:

    Improve logic: 2#10d6t5 2 3

    +2 logic though I believe we should have enough hits.

    Nope, Analyse device removes the defaulting penalty too

    This spell allows the subject to analyze the purpose and operation of a device or piece of equipment within range of the sense. The casting of the spell is opposed by the object’s resistance (p. 295). Each net hit can be used to provide a piece of information about the device that would not be readily apparent (for example, it would not give the information that it is a Renraku-manufactured device if the thing is emblazoned with a huge Renraku logo, but it might say what the basic function of the thing is). Each net hit also gives the subject a bonus die while operating the device and allows the subject to ignore any skill-defaulting modifiers for using it as long as the spell is sustained.

    And I just noticed, I forgot the wound mod I have from drain.

    Well, shit.

    I’d need Jawsey to apply some pain meds to Bobby beforehand (since we are using bullets and bandages rules, that’s another way to get rid of wound mods)

    Eh, we’re getting cute here. I would argue that none of these objects – glue, blanket, broom handle – qualifies as a “device” in the sense of the spell’s description.

    Technically we’re already bending the rules because none of the Engineering skills are defaultable in the first place. But nor does this repair neatly fall into any specific skill, and of course it’s plausible that someone could patch up a hole even without training.

    I have no problem with the repair being done and being done well, but let’s not powergame an RP plot point.

    Edit: AM’s Improve Logic should cover Bobby’s wound modifier so that he doesn’t lose any hits.

    Not to belabor the point, but the spell explicitly works on any kind of equipment (as per the rules text above).

    That said, yeah foil, duct tape and glue certainly won’t replace real sheeting material. This is just a provisional fix to prevent damage to our property.

    Well to belabor the point a little bit, the spell description says it applies to “a device or piece of equipment”. I think it’s reasonable to put some guidelines around what qualifies as a device or a piece of equipment. I would hesitate if someone picked up a rock, called it their “smashing device” and cast Analyze Device on it. In this case I think it’s okay to cast the spell on a glue sprayer but would the glue itself would qualify without the sprayer? I acknowledge that we’re getting into semantics and rules lawyering here.

    Similarly, while it does say it eliminates skill-defaulting modifiers, it doesn’t say it lets you use a non-defaultable skill. Now could you cast it on a space shuttle (Pilot Aerospace, not defaultable) and suddenly be able to fly it? Some people might say, “Yes, that’s the whole point of the spell” while others might say “No, that’s stretching the definition of a device too much and basically means that one spell can replicate any skill.” Reasonable people can come to different conclusions, which is why we have GMs (and also the OOC forum to discuss things).

    Transitioning, this ends the Third Interlude. Let’s move on to awards:

    Karma: 2 karma, enough to buy off a rank of In Debt if/when you can afford it

    Knowledge Skills (general): 3 points to spend as you please, to either buy new knowledge skill(s) and/or to add to existing knowledge skills, the goal being to advance things that are often afterthoughts. Spend these the same way you would in chargen (e.g. a specialization costs 1 skill point).

    Quality (optional): Buy 1 rank of the Battle Hardened quality (Street Lethal, p. 181) without the x2 multiplier for postchargen quality purchases. So, +1 rank = 2 karma. The benefit: β€œGain +1 to all Composure tests while engaged in a hostile situation. This quality can be taken up to three times, increasing the modifier by 1 each time. This quality does not offer any benefit versus spells or critter powers.”

    Contact (AM and Bobby): For their intervention on behalf of his wife and son, AM and Bobby get Clive Clarke as a free contact. He sells shoes and tries to keep his family together. He’s not that useful but he will religiously pay Bobby Β₯20 a week for six months even if it means he has to skip meals to do so. Connection 1 / Loyalty 4 (Bobby), Loyalty 5 (AM).

    Contact (AM): For her healing efforts on behalf of the local populace, AM gets Walon as a free Connection 2 / Loyalty 4 contact. Walon is a squatter but a well-connected squatter. He lives in a mini-storage unit. He’s human, a big bear of a man who has been living on the streets for a so long that you know he must be a hard-as-nails survivor. He’s good for communicating with/to the street population.

    Edit: We’ll kick off Chapter 5 in a day or two.

    Fair enough – you are the GM, your word decides.

    But in that case I would like to ask to change my selection of Analyse Device to a different spell. Since I’m pretty limited in Force with my Barehanded Adept Spells, I can’t actually hope to analyse sophisticated devices that have 9 to 15 object resistance. But if you consider all the simpler tools like a biface not to be elegible, I’m running quickly out of useful ways to apply this spell.

    Being able to overcome skill deficiencies was my primary motivation for choosing Analyse Device.

    As for the rewards, awesome (as usual πŸ˜‰ )

    I’m taking the Battle Hardened Quality

    For Knowledge, I’m increaseing Small Unit Tactics (seems fitting with watching gang warfare), Gang Knowledge (dito) and add a point of Chemistry.
    From my 20 karma I still have left over, I’m spending 2 on Animal Handling 1, 2 on Artisan 1, 2 on Running 1, 2 on Swimming 1 and another 2 on First Aid 1, leaving me with 10 Karma in reserve. Those go to increase my Flesh Crafter to III

    Jack, can’t you just carry a bunch of reagents in your pocket you don’t always need to fly a spaceship before a meteor hit earth?
